Santa Barbara County Courthouse

Hall of Records Restoration

The Santa Barbara County courthouse is an internationally know building, and is considered to be the finest example of a Spanish Colonial civic building in the US. It was designated a National Landmark in 2005.

The restoration and rehabilitation of the Hall of Records was subject to strict criteria and guidelines, as delineated by the Secretary of Interior Standards for rehabilitation of historic structures. BBP completely redesigned the internal circulation, and all of the furniture at the public counters was custom designed to complement the original furniture in the Courthouse. State of the art mechanical and electrical systems were built into the new furniture, concealing them so as to have no impact on the historic resources of the structure. All non-original improvements were removed and restored back to their original state, and the 60 foot diameter skylight was uncovered and reglazed.
