501 Chapala Street

Award-Winning Queen Ann Victorian Remodel

The building at 501 Chapala Street is the only remaining example of a Queen Anne style Victorian building in Santa Barbara's historic El Pueblo Viejo district. The program called for extensive remodeling of the interior spaces and a total restoration of the exterior of the building.

All changes to the structure were closely reviewed by the Historic Landmarks Commission, and had to be justified with research and documentation, including paint scrapings to determine the original and subsequent colors of the building. The finished project was given a Preservation Spirit award from the Pearl Chase Society, and a Santa Barbara Beautiful award.
